The Steal Club - 25k followers mean nothing

Welcome everyone!

We have a bunch of new people around here thanks to a newsletter shoutout or what I refer to as the "Josh Spector effect."

For those who are new here, The Steal Club is a weekly publication that explores the ways in which the best creators leverage social media to grow their audience and businesses.

And how you can do the same by stealing their tactics, tips, and strategies.

I often play around with the format, but the usual is to find a:

• Short essay with my learnings on my content creation journey
• A content template/format “ready to steal”
• A growth tip

I posted a thread yesterday after a long time.

According to all my standards, it was a failure. Or at least, it wasn’t what I would call a success.

For an account of my size, 42 likes and 5 RTs are not the best numbers.

It's not that bad actually. But I expected more.

Before, I would have labeled it a failure. Yesterday, however, when I looked at my notifications, I saw this:

It got me thinking.

Is this thread a failure if it has helped at least one person?

No. It's not.

This creating content thing is an ego game.

It “hurts” to see only 42 likes (for my standard) on my content. Nevertheless, I can rest easy knowing that a few people have benefited from it.

Am I too much of an optimistic?

Maybe.

But this is a mindset shift I decided to make not long ago.

It's so easy to burn out if we only look at the numbers.

But seeing content creation through this lens helps me keep peace of mind.

It means nothing that I have 25k followers on Twitter. 

What means much more is that my content helps at least one of them.

I know it’s hard but, from now on, try not to judge yourself based on the numbers on the screen.

Let's stop playing the ego game and we'll all be happier.

It's not public yet, but I've partnered with Alex Maese, a fellow Spaniard and Visual master, for a new project.

In only four months, Alex grew his account from 0 to 25k followers. As a reference, it took me almost two years to do the same 😅

As Alex and I both know, Twitter has great potential for building your personal brand.

My experience with building an audience has taught me one thing.

People like to hear about the things that you know, things that you did, your skills...

But they LOVE to hear about your journey.

When I look at my most-liked tweets, most of them talk about my journey. All of them have a ton of profile clicks (which results in more followers).

The lesson here is:

Talk about your journey = get more followers.

Here are two formats I’ve used in the past to share my journey:

They both are rooted in the concept of TRANSFORMATION.

As you can see, these formats are pretty easy to replicate.

Question/prompt people to share more

There are topics that may be more interesting to some audiences than others. 

Whenever you can tie your tweet to something like money (how you made more), a career change, or something similar, you're golden.

From the 10, 9 are specifically about my journey. my evolution, things I was learning, milestones...

Those things are unique to you. 

Share them with the world and see what happens.
