I love SEO but this topic is also a game-changer
I'm taking a hard detour from SEO today Reader.
And bringing up another crucial topic every blogger, niche site builder, and affiliate marketer should be thinking about if they truly care about the long-term growth of their website:
Email marketing.
As a beginner in SEO, I had no idea what email marketing was, much less why I should even care about it. Getting to the top of Google for my precious keywords and having people buy stuff through my affiliate links were my main focus; not creating an email list.
But as I've gotten deeper into this website-building game, I've learned that email marketing is a powerful channel that cannot be ignored. Especially, if you want to make more money, get repeat visitors, and keep your brand top-of-mind.
Now, if you're already building an email list, then I applaud you because you're already ahead of the crowd. If not, today is the day to jump on this great opportunity.
In simple terms, here's why you should do everything you can to build an email list for your website even though you're focusing on SEO:
- Most people only visit 1 page on average before they bounce from your site.
- Only about 1-3% of your website visitors actually buy an affiliate product through your links.
- Display ads can earn you between $0.01 to $0.04 per pageview on average, and without repeat visitors, you have to keep filling up that pipeline with new traffic.
- By not capturing emails, you're missing out on a golden opportunity to build a real relationship with your target audience (i.e., brand awareness).
Here's the truth:
You can rank your website in the #1 position for all of your top keywords as much as you want, but only a tiny percentage of those visitors will actually contribute to your bottom line, care about who you are as a brand, or tell other people about your content. Most people just come to your web pages, get the information they need, and leave.
Wouldn't it be better if you could get those users to come back to your website over and over again, buy the products you promote, or at the very least, visit more than one web page per session so you can rack up those display ad earnings?
Email marketing is the solution for all of that.
By capturing emails from your website visitors, sending them quality content throughout the week, and mentioning the products you think can benefit their lives, can be a powerful marketing engine that's working on your behalf to grow your business in addition to Google SEO traffic.
Heck, even the Daily Skimm, which sends a daily digest of news, gets about 24% of its traffic from email and 52% from direct visits due to great brand awareness. Talk about a wide safety net against any unpleasant Google algorithm shakeups.
Anyhoo Reader...
