I've got a new SEO blog post for you today. But first, a bit of personal news...
Here's what I happily woke up to this morning.
An SEO Chatter fan sent me this picture of his newly opened copy of the Keyword Accelerator Playbook which he got on Amazon here). There's also a digital version of the playbook that's inside my course platform which some people prefer over paperback books.
As an author, it feels kinda like Christmas to wake up to something like this even though I'm not the one opening the present 😊.
Anyways...
Today's blog post teaches you how to check organic traffic in Google Analytics (GA).
What you may not know is that the default places most of us look for traffic data in Google Universal Analytics shows you the total traffic to your web pages regardless of where those visitors come from. Meaning it's hard to tell if your SEO strategies are working on not.
For example, there are tons of bots out there sending useless traffic to websites. And while the daily visitor count can look impressive in your GA dashboard, it's actually misleading because those visits are not coming from organic search results for your target keywords in Google, Yahoo, or Bing.
A similar thing is true for traffic that comes from social media, email, or other sources. A while back, I had a major spike in traffic (double the number of daily visitors), and after further investigation, that traffic came from a semi-viral tweet I wrote on Twitter; not from Google's search engine.
Stuff like that is good to know if you're serious about about SEO.
