Google Search Console Anonymizes Tons of Queries; Updates Help Doc After Ahrefs Study

Article

We released a study a few weeks ago showing how Google Search Console classifies as anonymous, on average, 50% of queries. Barry Schwartz reached out to Google, giving it a chance to respond to this, and the result led to Google updating its help document on anonymized queries and the export/API capabilities.

In short, Google updated this help document from "very rare queries (called anonymized queries) are not shown in these results to protect the privacy of the user making the query" to "some queries (called anonymized queries) are not shown in these results to protect the privacy of the user making the query."

Here’s how to find them:

  1. Talk to your sales and customer service teams

  2. Utilize trend analysis tools to identify new themes

  3. Scour online communities where your audience congregates

  4. Dig into research journals, surveys, and reports

6 Predictions About AI in Content Marketing

Ryan Law’s predictions:

  1. AI will dominate simple SEO content.

  2. Google will do very little to counter it.

  3. Non-SEO content will matter more.

  4. The provenance of writing will become more important.

  5. AI writing tools will “land-and-expand” in most organizations.

  6. We will all become strategists.
