How many people are affected by President Biden's student loan debt cancellation?

Biden cancels $10,000 in federal student loan debt for most borrowers.
CNBC (Moderate Left) • Factual Grade 85% • 5 min read

President Biden announced that he will forgive $10,000 in federal student debt for most borrowers. Biden will cancel up to $20,000 for recipients of Pell Grants. The relief will be limited to Americans earning under $125,000 per year, or $250,000 for married couples. The relief is also capped at the amount of a borrower’s outstanding eligible debt.
    ...
In all, nearly 45% of borrowers, or almost 20 million people, would have their debt fully canceled, Biden said. Only about half of borrowers were in repayment in 2019. A quarter — over 10 million people — were in delinquency or default, and the rest had applied for temporary relief.
    ...
Critics of student loan forgiveness have questioned the fairness of directing relief at those who have benefited from a college education, which usually leads to higher wages. [Advocates argue] mushrooming tuition prices coupled with stagnant household wages over the last 40 years have forced more families to borrow to attend college, an increasingly necessary step to reach the middle class.

President Biden's student debt relief plan will worsen inflation.

Student debt forgiveness is a good start — but more is needed to attack cost bloat in higher education.

Should the Parkland shooter receive the death penalty?

444 votes, 56 comments

Context: Parkland shooter's lawyer details his developmental problems in childhood.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Ordinarily I am opposed to the death penalty [...]. But when the preponderance of evidence, combined with a guilty plea, rules out all doubt, I have no problem with the death penalty. But then there's the free will issue to contend with. Truth be told, free will is indeed a lie, or at the very least a misunderstanding. But even though morality is predicated upon this faulty concept, we need morality in order to act (and even to perceive descriptive facts), and so I do not consider excuses from determinism to be valid, even in the case of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
