Mark Zuckerberg tells podcaster Joe Rogan that FBI warning prompted Biden laptop story censorship.

The New York Post [in late 2020] alleged leaked emails from Hunter Biden's laptop showed the then vice-president was helping his son's business dealings in Ukraine. The story, based on exclusive data no other news agency had access to, was met with skepticism. Facebook and Twitter restricted sharing of the article, before reversing course.
    ...
Zuckerberg told Rogan: "The background here is that the FBI came to us and was like 'hey, just so you know, you should be on high alert. We thought there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election, we have it on notice that basically there's about to be some kind of dump that's similar to that'." He said the FBI did not warn Facebook about the Biden story in particular - only that Facebook thought it "fit that pattern".
    ...
[In 2022], the Washington Post concluded the laptop and some emails were likely to be authentic - but the majority of data could not be verified. Other once-sceptical news organisations such as the New York Times have agreed at least some of the emails are genuine.

Yes - I grew up in the '70s and '80s. I think it was pretty well accepted that the influence of western culture was a factor in the fall of the USSR. The influence of anti-democratic governments to mold their people's ideas and perceptions of the world outside of their borders is an injustice. We see this going on in North Korea, Russia, Iran, China and many other countries. Clearly this could be misused by the US, but I don't think that was the purpose here. If we can inform the people of these countries, especially the younger generations, what the outside world has to offer, I think over time there would be positive internal changes.
