He is one of dozens of formerly enthusiastic crypto supporters who have rushed to delete tweets

Tom Brady’s paid alliance with crypto exchange FTX is burning before his eyes, on account of the fact that the exchange’s leader, ex-billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried, seems to have been wrapped up in a secret lending scam that allegedly misappropriated some $10 billion in user money.

Brady is clearly unnerved by the FTX blow up, as he (or his unlucky social media manager) keeps deleting tweets that mention either FTX or Bankman-Fried. We reached out to Brady’s team for comment; they did not immediately respond, perhaps because most of these tweets are stupid. They may have even been contractually required.

That said, Brady is not alone in excising the scandal from his timeline. Several dozen other crypto personalities, media figures, and celebrities have apparently removed FTX-related tweets, including Substacker Matt Yglesias, economist Tyler Cowen, Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and America’s favorite short screamer Anthony Scaramucci. (Jones and Lawrence both had sponsorships with FTX and its subsidiary, Blockfolio, respectively; FTX owns a stake in Scaramucci’s hedge fund, Skybridge Capital).

Dozens of national feminist organizations spoke out in support of the actress. Where were they in May?

On Wednesday morning, several national feminist organizations and writers, released an open letter of support for the actress Amber Heard. The letter is published on a site called “Amber Open Letter,” and its list of signees — including the National Women’s Law Center, the Women’s March Foundation, and Gloria Steinem — is significantly longer than the letter itself, which is full of non-specific and wimpy hedging about the villainization of Heard, who was successfully sued for defamation by her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Everything about this letter — its signees, its resolution that “the Depp v. Heard verdict and continued discourse around it indicate a fundamental misunderstanding of intimate partner and sexual violence and how survivors respond to it,” its arrival some five months after the conclusion of the trial — is fucking useless. It is, at best, a show of belated solidarity to bolster the egos of its writers, and at worst, a flagrant and cowardly admission of guilt over further silence.

I guess I have been archetyping the archetype of “activist” differently than Meghan has, as when I think about Glazer’s wackadoo political logrolling, my mind immediately goes to her bold awareness-raising campaign of calling vaginas “nature’s pocket” because of their ability to contain a little bag of weed, though I guess there was that time that Hillary Clinton was on Broad City. Weed is sorta legal in New York now, though, so yaaaaas! to her.

Ilana’s segment was really only notable for Meghan telling her that her work “hides the vegetables” by making feminism palatable through comedy, seconds before mentioning that she’s lucky because her “little ones” Lilibet Jr. and Archie actually “love vegetables.” Continue reading

The Fuller House co-stars have a difference in opinions over fascist holiday programming

Yesterday was a tough go for our sweet, beautiful, funny little Jojo. Luckily, the Gawker Person of the Yoyo (2021) found some sweet solidodo in her friend and name-twin Sweetin, Jojo: the former child actress will not kowtow to Fuller House co-star Candace Cameron Bure’s sickening homophobo regarding her straights-only Christian nationalist cable television movie progro.

In case you’re not caught up, Bure recently gave an interview about leaving behind the Hallmark Channel for Great American Family, “the God-and-country alternative for holiday entertainment.” When asked whether GAF will feature LGBTQ+ characters in any of the presumably hundreds of 70-minute feature films about harried business women retreating to small-town bakeries owned by single fathers (via cancer death of wife) it shits out for romance-hungry Christians across the country to half-watch while posting memes about pronouns to their Instagram grid, she responded, “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.”

For Jojo, who recently ended a feud with Bure, this was the last straw. She posted a screenshot of a Deadline summary of Bure’s interview on Instagram making her stance known: “This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.” Sweetin was among the many celebrity supporters in the comments: “You know I love you.” Aww!
