In celebration of Thanksgiving, Silicon Valley took a break this past week from all venture activities. I wish you a festive holiday season, filled with love, joy, family, friendship and delicious food. 

Here are a few great reads for this week:

  • 🛍️ Black Friday broke $9 billion in online sales for the first time in history on November 24, according Adobe Analytics. Black Friday is a key focus for those gauging how the e-commerce market, and consumer confidence, are both faring in what is the most important and biggest period for shopping in the year. Also check out this early look at Thanksgiving 2022 Internet trends on Cloudfare.
  • 🇨🇳 China COVID-19 cases hit record high on Thanksgiving Day according to Reuter. The curbs are taking a toll on locked-down residents Foxconn, the world's biggest iPhone plant and protests in Shanghai
  • 🐦  Who is paying for Twitter? An NY Times analysis on analysis of the estimated 140,000 accounts paying for Twitter Blue revealed many are far-right influencers, the average of who have 560 followers.  Meanwhile, Elon claims signups are averaging over two million per day in the last seven days as of Nov. 16, up 66% compared to the same week in 2021.
  • 💰 Almost $100M in NFT Transactions in past 7 days - Top 5 NFT marketplaces (Opens, MagicEden, X2Y2, LooksRare and CryptoPunks) transacted almost $100M in trading volume in the past 7 days.  Check out NFT marketplace by trading volumes, number of traders and key metrics.
