The Midnight Club might be closed, but that hasn’t stopped star Ruth Codd from wondering what might have been.

On the heels of the cancellation of Mike Flanagan’s YA horror series following the residents of a teen hospice as they trade horror stories, Inverse spoke to The Midnight Club breakout star Ruth Codd, who played the sardonic fan-favorite Anya. She mourned the cancellation of the show and spoke about Flanagan’s plans for Season 2, which would have given Codd even more to do — but not as Anya.

Read Codd’s thoughts on the cancellation of The Midnight Club and more on today’s Inverse Daily.

Midnight Club Season 2: Ruth Codd on what could have been

The Midnight Club looked like the start of a new era for prolific horror director Mike Flanagan. A departure from his earlier Netflix fare like The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor, it positioned itself as a series about young adults, for young adults.

An adaptation of several Christopher Pike stories, The Midnight Club followed residents of Brightcliffe, a teen hospice, as they traded horror stories. Season 1 just started to unwrap Brightcliffe’s secrets, but Netflix’s recent decision to cancel the series left a lot of lingering questions.

Inverse spoke to the series’ breakout star Ruth Codd about what could have been.

The Daredevil: Born Again cast is still missing two key players

Daredevil made a splash in 2015 and showed the world there was room for traditional television within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But unlike its sister Netflix series Luke CageJessica Jones, and Iron Fist, it’s getting another chance to define a new era of Marvel television.

In the wake of a successful slew of MCU TV including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, Marvel reintroduced Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) in Hawkeye and Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, thrusting Daredevil back into the spotlight.

Soon after, Marvel greenlit a reboot of the Netflix series titled Daredevil: Born Again. But is there a danger of the new series missing some key elements?

This electric SUV from Scotland makes Tesla’s Cybertruck look sleek

Forget the ultra-curvy aesthetic we’re seeing with most new electric vehicles. The upstart automaker from Scotland, Munro Vehicles, is all about the sharp edges and a boxy build as we can see with its MK1. Munro recently announced its flagship EV which is designed to be a 4x4 that’s fully capable in off-road conditions.

Munro Vehicles is relatively new to the EV scene, getting its start in Glasgow, Scotland in 2019. The company wants its EVs to be known for reliability and longevity but is also focused on the offroading segment of the EV world. You can clearly see its ideology with the MK1, which Munro says should last more than 50 years so long as you do routine maintenance and refurbishments.

Scientists want to know why swear words share this one universal trait

George Carlin’s “Incomplete List of Impolite Words” is a lush repository of English’s filthiest terms and euphemisms. The late comedian rattled off profanity so fast one hardly had time to cringe before he’d moved on to the next one.

Every language poses a beautiful range of cusses and insults, and while the sounds may change, the feeling behind them is universal.

But what phonemes and linguistic elements give a swear word that quintessential gut-punch feeling? A study published this week in the journal Psychonomic Bulletin & Review offers findings on one particular commonality.
