I Tried Using ChatGPT on Social...and I Got Caught!

When ChatGPT was announced just a week or so ago, I HAD to give it a try.

At first, I tried asking it a few simple questions like, "What's the best sites to visit in Hawaii?"

Then I asked it to write me a funny poem about my Dad building a snowman... (turned out decent!)

Then I asked it what I should buy my wife for Christmas (the robot wisely declined to answer that question).

Then I showed my 14 year old daughter the chatbot...and she LOVED it! She spent well over an hour having the bot write silly poems and songs about people and things she likes (turned out hilarious...)

When I played around with the tool next, I asked for lists of things. Name the 10 best rank tracking tools. Or list 27 ways to build backlinks.

At first, I was super impressed...what a great way to get content!

I decided to try and be "sneaky" and post a few of these lists to Twitter and my Facebook group.

I thought I had the ultimate answer to creating social media content!

Here's my thread ChatGPT's Twitter thread on 21 Link Building Strategies

Here's another of my threads ChatGPT's Twitter thread on 7 Ways to Use Google Search Console to Grow Your Website

Wow, I'm getting likes, I'm getting comments, I'm getting retweets from stuff produced in seconds with ChatGPT!

I've cracked the lazy man's way to social media domination!

Then I decided to post "9 Online Business Ideas..." in my Niche Pursuits FB group...

After a couple hours, people started wondering if I was using ChatGPT to post on social?!?

Here's the thread:

A few people quickly pointed out that I must be using ChatGPT, and I was quick to confess...my experiment worked all of 3 social media posts.

And that's the sense I've started to get over this past week. While the content provided by ChatGPT seems almost magical is how quickly its produced, something about it does feel a bit off.

I can start to sense when others post content created by ChatGPT as well.

So, maybe use it as a brainstorming tool, but I won't be posting content created directly by ChatGPT on social media anymore, and would certainly never use it directly on my websites.

It's too detectable in some cases.

In fact, it's detectable by tools like Originality.ai as well.

I'm a strategic investor in a new tool called Originality.ai that was created specifically to detect content written by AI.

Since OpenAI (ChatGPT) is well...open...Originality can train it's content detection models on GPT models as well.

Here's an output from Originality detecting some AI content:

If you want to know if your authors are using AI to write your content or if they are plagiarising content, that's the entire purpose of Originality.ai.

But can it detect ChatGPT content?

Yes. In fact, here's a test of 20 different pieces of content and the full results right here.

And Originality will only get better as the tool continue to get trained on GPT 3.5 over time.

Go ahead and check out Originality.ai right here.

And before you get carried away producing content with ChatGPT for your websites or social media...just know that we as humans can often still detect that the content isn't quite right.

The future of AI is closer...but not here just yet.
