Why did a man die shortly after an encounter with Los Angeles police?

Source: Los Angeles Police Department's YouTube channel

  1. Summary
Keenan Anderson, a 31-year-old Black man, was killed by Los Angeles Police on Jan. 3 after getting into a traffic accident. When an officer arrived on scene, Anderson was in the middle of the road asking for help. The officer told him to go to the sidewalk, which Anderson did. Anderson then appeared concerned that the officer was planting evidence on his car, saying "I want people to see me,” and “You’re putting a thing on me.”

Anderson became increasingly agitated and then ran. When the officer caught up with him, he did not cooperate with orders to lie down, and plead for help as more officers joined, pinned him down and tased him repeatedly. At one point he said “They’re trying to George Floyd me.”

Anderson was later taken to a hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and died. Police said a preliminary blood test found traces of cocaine and marijuana, a statement that received some criticism as a formal cause of death has yet to be established. Some bystanders in the video commented that he caused the car accident and was in a paranoid state.

Should the US lower its retirement age of 67 years?

450 votes, 57 comments

Context: France proposes raising its retirement age.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - While it sounds nice for those retiring to do so early, it doesn’t sound so good if it means their benefits will disappear when they most need it and are in a worse position to compensate. People can retire whenever they want…if they can afford to. The question here is when the government starts picking up the tab. Based on the world I see, we don’t have the resources to do that.
