What has a grand jury found about attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election?

Source: Associated Press

  1. Summary
On Thursday the findings of a Georgia grand jury investigating former President Trump and his allies' attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election were partially released. The judge did not allow the release of the full report.

The portion released on Thursday says the jury found one or more of the witnesses who testified may have committed perjury. A grand jury does not have the authority to bring indictments, but it can recommend them. The released part of the report does not name potential indictment targets, but the full report does.

Attorneys representing Trump said recently that charges against the former President should not be expected: "The grand jury compelled the testimony of dozens of other, often high-ranking, officials during the investigation, but never found it important to speak with the President." Prominent people who were subpoenaed include Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Will increasing IRS funding result in more audits for the middle class?

Context: Appointee for IRS head grilled by Senate panel on how agency will use increased funds.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - Ultra high-income earners hire attorneys and accountants to do their complex taxes. The IRS may review their complex returns first, but once those get bogged down in the courts, and the IRS finds they're getting very little juice for the squeeze, they'll start looking further down the income brackets, where far more money is to be grabbed. There are far more returns under $400k/year than over, which add up to more money to be collected by auditing those returns.

No - I doubt it will increase the rate in any significant capacity. The law is the law...
