What is known about the three unidentified objects shot down by US fighter jets?

Source: BBC via Yahoo! News

  1. Summary
On Sunday the U.S. shot down an unknown object in North American airspace for the third time. It was flying at 20,000ft, potentially threatening civilian aircraft. The Chinese spy balloon last week flew at 60,000ft.

The Pentagon said it could have been used for surveillance, though this remains uncertain. US General Glen VanHerck said that the military has been monitoring airspace more cautiously because of the Chinese spy balloon discovered last week, but that the three new devices were being called "objects, not balloons, for a reason." A defense official told Reuters that there is no evidence the craft are extraterrestrial.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who received a briefing on the issue, said officials believe the first three flying objects were Chinese surveillance balloons. The White House later downplayed his comments. Authorities in China's eastern Shandong province said they were preparing to shoot down an unidentified object on Sunday, though Beijing did not officially comment on the matter.

Should large companies be required to provide a minimum amount of paid sick leave?

472 votes, 60 comments

Context: White House, Senators, pressure rail companies to give workers paid sick leave.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Yes - The United States considers itself to be the most advanced and best country in most/all manners, and yet has some of the weakest policies for workers and healthcare result versus cost. If you cannot afford to provide your employees something as reasonable as paid sick leave (something that is the benefit of other employees and customers), you should not be in business. Companies like Walmart and Amazon have basically provided low pay and benefits so that ultimately taxpayers are left subsidising their bad employment practices through Medicare and Medicaid.
