   President Biden on Monday approved an $8 billion drilling project in Alaska. The Willow Project stands to produce 576 million barrels of oil over 30 years, peaking at 180,000 barrels per day. Over its lifespan, the Willow Project is projected to emit as much as 70 new coal plants. Some worry the project could release dangerous gas trapped under the permafrost.
   
   Alaska's bipartisan congressional delegation urged the Biden administration to approve the project. Some Native American tribes opposed the project, concerned about the impact on the local environment, while other tribes supported the project because of economic benefit. ConocoPhillips said it would decrease dependence on foreign energy.
