Chase shared some insights from his LinkedIn growth journey and we hashed out how it compares to investing in building your brand on Twitter. IMO, we came to all the right answers on the LinkedIn vs. Twitter discourse, with a little Instagram peppered in there too, just because (check it out and hear and/or see for yourself). What’s Good @ Google ✅
→ This new post explains what Google is doing to catch fake reviews. In 2022, their updated efforts removed 200M+ photos, 7M+ videos, and 115M+ reviews, and started monitoring the activity of 180K offending businesses. The post explains how machine learning helped Google minimize bad content by uncovering abuse patterns faster and removing fraudulent images… worth a read IMO!

→ In total, 5.2B ads were removed by Google in 2022… that’s a lot.

AI Insight: Bard and Bing Both Level Up 📈
→ Speaking of Google, Bard just got another major upgrade to its math & logic capabilities. We already know that Google’s PaLM (Pathways Language Model) has made more sophisticated advancements than early editions of Bard had incorporated. So, this upgrade brings in some of that progress, allowing Bard to do complex math, greater perform logical inference, and work with a deeper understanding of context. Early returns? Digital marketers are saying it’s more versatile, and helping solve more advanced problems than before, as well as contributing to streamlined workflows. Love it.

This Bloomberg piece takes a deeper look into AI-"hallucinating" and argues it’d be more accurate to call it what it is: "making things up"

Bing Chat is leveling up in many ways, adding images and videos directly in the chat, improving local results, and improving its capability to summarize larger docs and pages in the Edge sidebar. Beyond that, the chatbot is on the verge of integrating with Bing Translate, and more. Check the article for the whole scoop.

→ Bing Chat’s move toward featuring ads is moving fast. The chatbot had a short run as an ad-free experience, but the chance to capitalize on 100M+ daily users with ad revenue is too much for Microsoft to resist, I guess. Can you blame them? The plan is not only to include ads in the chat experience, but more links from certain publishers will be displayed when the user hovers over their link, and captions of Microsoft Start licensed content will be available beside chat answers. All of these changes promise to drive engagement, traffic, and revenue.

Moz on AI for SEO & Content Marketing 🤖
Over at Moz, Ann Smarty dropped her take on how this new plethora of AI tools can be best used by digital marketers in SEO and content marketing at the moment. It’s a good read.

She works on these assumptions: 1) AI technology is a total game-changer in how it will change how people seek answers, but 2) will never fully replace human-created content. And 3) that AI is here to stay and we are currently at "the very birth of this new AI-driven world."

So, since it's here to stay, we can either: "Ignore AI for as long as we can" or "Start using AI now, and ride this wave as informed as we can." Obviously, she suggests the latter, and it's pretty obvious she's right about that.

She offers 19+ ways you can use AI for content creation & optimization, while keeping in mind that Google wants content that AI will never fully be able to deliver on its own, because of its bias toward Personal Opinion and Expertise-- you know, human stuff. Still, here are 5 good suggestions from her 19 (although they're all worth a look):

  1. Content summaries and meta descriptions
  2. FAQ sections and pages (based on your existing articles or a keyword you are planning to target)
  3. YouTube video descriptions (or YouTube video summaries to use on your site for accessibility)
  4. Image anchor text for your whole article/page
  5. Definitions for any term you mention (to optimize for featured snippets).

After this, she suggests other AI tools beyond Chat-GPT that might be worth your attention, and then she ends it off with other ways AI can improve your digital marketing strategy (customer support, brand identity creation, scaling PPC, enhancing marketing monitor tactics, etc.). All in all, this is a great article with tons of useful insight.

Social Media Round-up 🤠
→ TikTok is still grinding away to reassure its investors and users in the USA that everything is gonna be alright. Despite the whole "looming ban" and all; BTW, if you’re still looking for an explanation of WTF is going on w/ the ban, here’s a good explainer by the Guardian, or you can read this Politico piece on how the app built "a team of avengers" to fight for the app’s survival;

→ Twitter is under fire again, this week for a few things. First, it’s been revealed that 35 Twitter celebrities have been getting a manufactured boost, including conservative firebrand Ben Shapiro and controversial congresswoman AOC— but this is exactly the sort of behind-the-scenes amplification that Elon was railing about when he bought the company; Twitter also introduced 3 "API-Access Tiers" which range from $0-40K a month; the day of reckoning came, and the unpaid blue checks remained— turns out, it’s an extremely tedious manual process to remove each and every individual checkmark, so it was easier to just collapse the Twitter Blue vs. Legacy Verification into the same text blurb:

→ at Meta, they’re pouring one out for Instagram NFTs, which will be deactivated by April 11;

→ LinkedIn is the latest social media app to add algorithmically suggested posts to boost engagement, with feed personalization & "Discover" features in its "Knowledge Seeking Edition"
