  1. Summary
Bob Lee, the co-creator of the mobile payment service Cash App, was fatally stabbed in San Francisco earlier this week. He was 43 years old. San Francisco Police said they responded to the emergency call at 2:35 am. No arrests have been made and no suspects named as of Thursday night.

Lee had recently relocated from San Francisco to Miami. A friend of Lee told the Daily Mail that Lee had moved because San Francisco was "deteriorating." Twitter CEO Elon Musk asked the city's district attorney whether enough was being done to incarcerate repeat offenders, saying "Many people I know have been severely assaulted."

Homicides in San Francisco hit a six-decade low in 2019, at 41 deaths. The number began increasing from 2020, with the city recording 56 deaths in 2022. There were 12 homicides in 2023 by April 2, compared to 10 homicides for the same period in 2022. Violent crime overall in San Francisco was lower in 2022 than in 2018.

Is Twitter right to label NPR as state-affiliated media?

437 votes, 56 comments

Context: Twitter labels NPR as "US state-affiliated media," does not apply similar label to BBC or other outlets.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - I don’t think people realize what “state-affiliated” media means. By no stretch of the imagination is NPR state-affiliated. They receive virtually no federal funding and they’re left-leaning no matter who is in government. They are driven by the biases of their donors, which doesn’t include the government.

Yes - It is partially government sponsored, so yes - absolutely. But Twitter should also label...

Unsure - I'm not a fan of NPR, but it's far more independent than other outlets we consider state media. I've seen plenty of NPR articles critical of the government, which is not somethin...
