Why is CBS being criticized for its interview with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene?

  1. Summary
CBS is facing a backlash for interviewing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on its 60 Minutes program. The segment opened with reporter Lesley Stahl noting that Greene went from being a fringe figure to an influential GOP lawmaker in just two years. Stahl noted Greene's recent call for a "national divorce" of red and blue states.

Many criticized CBS and Stahl for not pressing Greene further, or for giving her a platform at all given her past support of conspiracy theories, including QAnon. For example, when asked why she thought the US should have a "Christian government," Greene said "The Founding Fathers [...] were driven by their faith." No follow-up from Stahl was shown.

Greene said she thinks the Democrats are a party of pedophiles. When pushed, she said, "Democrats support – even [Joe Biden] supports children being sexualised and having transgender surgeries." Stahl asked if Greene had to use name-calling. Greene responded: "I would ask the same question to the other side, because all they’ve done is call me names."

Yes - I know it's normal to be fearful of new technology to some degree, but it feels especially true with this. I'm really tired of the cycle of introducing a new technology, allowing it to wreak havoc unchecked, then implementing rules and regulations after the fact. We have seen enough and know enough about AI to create regulations. Let's do that now before it causes too much more damage.

Unsure - I don't think a pause would really hurt anything, but I also don't know how it would really help. A pause seems reasonable but if it's on...
