Should Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pardon Daniel Perry?

408 votes, 50 comments

Context: Gov. Abbott pushes to pardon man convicted of killing a protestor in 2020; protestor was armed with a rifle.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - The evidence showed that this man shot and killed someone without provocation while he was exercising his First Amendment rights. Multiple witnesses testified that the victim did not raise his weapon. The shooter could have simply put the vehicle in reverse and left the area instead of taking a life, or even more intelligently, used any of the freely available and widely known map apps with real-time traffic information to avoid streets with large crowds of protesters. You can't claim "Stand Your Ground" protects you when you are the one that encroaches on the space others are in and then fire into a crowd of people.
