Why did President Biden announce his 2024 reelection bid now?

Source: Yahoo! News and YouGov

  1. Summary
President Biden formally announced his intention to seek reelection on Tuesday. Although the announcement had been widely expected, the formal declaration allows Biden to begin directly raising and spending campaign funds. The announcement's timing also allows Biden to avoid publicly disclosing how much his campaign raised during the first quarter -- when donors typically slow down their contributions.

Biden will meet with Democratic National Committee leaders and prominent donors on Friday. The DNC is committed to Biden's re-election and is not planning to schedule primary debates. Only two Democrats have unveiled presidential bids so far: anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and self-help author and progressive Marianne Williamson.

Biden is already the oldest president in US history, and he would be 86 by the end of a second term, a point of concern among both Republican and Democratic voters. However, a survey published last week found 81% of Democrats would likely vote for Biden again.

How do you view Tucker Carlson's exit from Fox News?

529 votes, 69 comments

Context: Fox News appears to fire Tucker Carlson, its most popular host.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

Positively - Carlson regularly presented non sequitur arguments to support his conclusions. He is a smart person so I'm sure he did it intentionally to persuade non-critical thinking persons to adopt his views. That is dishonest and I vehemently oppose dishonesty in news media regardless of whether I hold common political views with the person or not.

Unsure - I am a Marxist. Tucker's views couldn't be more different than mine, but he deserves some credit for being one of the only mainstream voices to question the uni-party con...

Negatively - While I consider Carl Tuckerson the right's Rachel Maddow (I'm not too fond of either), I think it is a loss in the larger scheme of things. I don't think any network is "...
