Why was former President Trump indicted?

Source: Yahoo! News and YouGov

  1. Summary
Former President Trump has been indicted on seven counts related to mishandling classified documents, according to the former president and sources familiar with the matter. The specific charges are currently unclear. The indictment will not disqualify Trump's 2024 candidacy.

The case stems from hundreds of classified records stored in Mar-a-Lago. A legal back-and-forth over missing records that began in 2021 culminated in the FBI raiding Mar-a-Lago to retrieve records in August 2022. Last year prosecutor Jack Smith was appointed as a special counsel to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.

The indictment comes days after reports emerged that Smith obtained a 2021 tape in which Trump acknowledged having a classified document in his possession, as well as other evidence. Unlike Trump, President Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence appeared unaware of documents found in their residences and cooperated with authorities. The Justice Department generally considers intent when bringing charges.

Should US health officials encourage the use of weight loss drugs?

310 votes, 51 comments

Context: UK pilot program will make it easier for patients to obtain weight loss drug.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - While weight is an issue in the US, it’s the underlying causes that need to be addressed, not the physical weight. They should encourage doctors to actually take a more holistic and evidence-based approach to weight loss and look at things like a person’s diet, eating schedule, activity level, hormones, genetics, sleep, and mental health. Otherwise, it’s like trying to replace the siding on a burning house: yes, the siding needs to be replaced, but that doesn’t address the more serious problem that is causing (and will continue to cause) the more superficial problems.

Yes - I never advocate for “drugging your way out of a problem,” however in this case, anyth...
