Why is President Biden's accuser seeking Russian citizenship?

  1. Summary
Tara Reade, who in 2020 accused President Biden of sexually assaulting her when she worked in his Senate office in 1993, announced Wednesday that she has fled to Russia. She is asking President Vladimir Putin for citizenship, but has not renounced her US citizenship.

Reade made the announcement in an interview hosted by Russian state media. The event featured Maria Butina, a suspected Russian spy who spent a year in a US prison before being deported to Russia. In the interview, Reade described Butina as a friend she has known "for quite some time." Two former intelligence officials told USA Today that Reade may be part of a Russian information campaign, if unwittingly.

Reade said she wants to live in the US, but "I just didn't want to walk home and walk into a cage or be killed." She did not specify why she felt threatened. Three weeks ago, after being invited to testify before Congress by GOP Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz, Reade tweeted "If something happens to me [...] I am not suicidal, [nor] am I a foreign agent."

Should the United States limit birthright citizenship?

580 votes, 65 comments

Context: Former President Trump vows to limit birthright citizenship for those born to illegal immigrants.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - Well, first, it's in the Constitution. And second, limiting birthright citizenship takes us away from the American ideal of equality, which while imperfect in America, remains a bright north star to which we should aspire. Moving away from this would also perpetuate the stratified sense of belonging this country has long cultivated, always to its detriment. If we really want to solve the immigration question, both parties should come together and work out a solution in good faith.

Yes - You shouldn't be granted citizenship based on where you were born, but based on your parents' citizenship. If a baby is born to Americans while they are abroad that child is still (and should be) an Americ...
