I had an email yesterday.

It said:

"I'd love to know how you manage to get such high traffic with few content."

And I was about to reply.

But then I thought, you know what...

I could just write a quick reply like - 'make really good content'.

But that wouldn't be helpful. 

And I like to be helpful.

So instead, I'll write a detailed reply and share it with everyone.

So here goes...

I'm aware that my sites do get a lot of pageviews per article.

How much is a lot?

My main site has around 500 posts and gets over a million page views per month.

That's around 2,000 page views per article per month, on average. 

Some posts get just a handful of clicks

And some are big hitters, like these...

My top post made $1,850 from ads last month.

That's more than I used to make from my job as an SEO manager each month.

With one blog post!

Bonkers, I know.

So how do these posts bring in the big numbers?

Honestly, part of it is the site's age. 

I've been adding content consistently every week for 4 years.

I wouldn't expect these results on a one-year-old site with 500 posts.

So if that's where you're at, do not compare.

Site age is a massive ranking factor.

I do also have a one-year-old site that has 100 posts.

That one gets 300 visits per post, per month, on average.

Not bad, but nowhere near those big numbers.

The top post makes $152/month from ads, with 2,772 page views.

Still, not to be sniffed at.

Now, back to the question - how to get a high number of pageviews per post.

(Aside from having a site that's over 3 or 4 years old)

In my experience, there are 4 key factors to it...

1. Wizard-level keyword research.

This is absolutely essential.

I have 20+ different methods that I use for keyword research.

I don't have them documented anywhere.

I'm a very disorganised person so they're all in my brain and I pluck them from there whenever I feel like it.

Soz.

My chaotic working style is one of the main reasons why I don't have a course to teach any of this.

It would require putting the knowledge I've gathered over the years in some sort of order and that's not my skill set.

(But, if you do want to look over the shoulder of someone who's ahead of us both while they demonstrate these methods, you can do that here.)

2. Updating old posts

When I put a post live, it's not the final edit.

It's good, but I'm not done.

Each post will hit its peak ranking position around 9 months after it's published.

So 9-12 months after publishing, I go back in, and I work on it.

I apply everything I've learned in the past 12 months to make it better.

(Because I'm always learning)

Plus, I now have data about real impressions and clicks from Google Search Console,

Which is the most accurate keyword research data on the planet.

I use Query Hunter (which is free) to pull GSC data into Wordpress.

It highlights keywords the post is ranking for that I haven't mentioned (I add them in)

It suggests questions to add to an FAQ section.

And it gives me ideas for new posts to write.

Again, I use my mishmash of knowledge about what makes a good post to make it better.

3. Unique Images

I can already hear you thinking of shortcuts...

Using Midjourney or some other AI to create images doesn't count.

Removing backgrounds and adding text with Canva doesn't count.

People can see right through these and so can Google.

Nobody is going to believe you have real experience until they see a photo of your hand.

Not even your face. Your hand is fine.

Here's my hand, writing this email.

It took me 5 seconds. That's not hard to do, is it?

4. Links

Yes, you need links.

No, you don't need to 'do link building'.

It's optional.

However, what's not optional, is internal links.

Those are mandatory.

They need to be in the body of the content.

They need to be clickable and super-relevant.

They need to have varied anchor text.

Many people hand this job off to a VA or a tool.

I still do it myself, because I think it's too important not to.

Okay, so those are my top 4.

Of course, there are a ton more factors to it as well.

And a shitload more detail behind each one.

Nobody said this was easy.

Although writing that one post that makes me $1,850 per month was definitely a lot easier than working in an office for $1,500 per month!

I can't fit the whole strategy into an email. No way.

I don't document it anywhere.

And even if I did, I wouldn't do half as good a job of it as what's already out there.

Take the Race to $100K Per Month winner Jon Dykstra, for example.

Jon's been doing trial and error on his sites for twice as long as I have.

He makes twice as much money.

He's been building the Niche Site Profits course for years.

And he continually updates it, adding new modules based on what's working right now.

Any course I could make would just be a poor knock-off of that one.

Jon's course is stellar.

Over the years, he's built a community of the most helpful, successful people in his members-only forum.

So you don't need to search for the info you need.

You can just ask there and get opinions from many different people.

That's worth as much as the course in my opinion. Maybe more.
