  1. Summary
Gun violence during the Juneteenth holiday weekend left at least six dead and dozens injured across the United States. The lion's share of the violence took place in the Chicago area, where at least 60 people were shot in just a few incidents. 23 were shot in Willowbrook, a suburb of Chicago, during a Juneteenth celebration. It remains unclear how many assailants were involved in the Willowbrook incident.

Police also responded to shootings in Kellogg, Idaho; St. Louis; a Washington state campground; Carson, in Southern California; Baltimore; San Francisco; and Philadelphia. All incidents involved at least four people being shot, a common definition of "mass shooting."

Only the incident in Kellogg fit the FBI definition of "mass murder," which requires at least four deaths. In St. Louis, the shooting that wounded 11 and killed one broke out among teenagers having a party; San Francisco's "car-to-car" shooting resulted in six injuries, of which one was life-threatening; and in Baltimore, all six victims are expected to survive.

HIGHLIGHTED COMMENTS

No - In spite of allowing teens to drive at 16 in some states, we see over and over the poor decisions they make just with regard to this portion of their lives. In their teen years, they make many decisions based on emotion and trends, not logic or reasoning. While they profess to being smart and capable, they lack experience. When we ask, "What were you thinking?", we already know that they weren't! We know the plight of any teen mother with a child or two and a bleak future to look forward to. Eighteen seems at least a better minimum.
