September’s Theme is Simplicity

In the design traditions of Scandinavian and Japanese minimalism, the paring down of possessions creates a greater sense of tranquility and ease. Simplicity invites us to imagine how rich we might feel when we make do with less.

But put another way, what if we imagined simplicity not in terms of absence but essence? In a world of confounding variables, layers of additional nuance and context, and the mind-boggling complexity of systems upon interdependent systems, simplicity drives us to get to the deep core of the matter. The etymological roots of simplicity refers to a single, indivisible nature. The heart unifies the whole.

Where can you exercise restraint and streamline excess? How will you find clarity amidst chaos?

Our Gothenburg chapter chose this month’s exploration of Simplicity and Jessica Jämting illustrated the theme.

The hashtags of the month are #CMSimplicity #CreativeMornings

All the Simple Things

This month's Theme Illustrator, Jessica Jämting, is a Swedish artist, illustrator and designer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. She creates vibrant and maximalist art and interior design. Jessica Jämting gets her inspiration from nature, old art nouveau and ‘60s & 70’s patterns. She is also influenced by everyday life and her constant strive to explore new worlds and techniques.

"Complexity can be intellectually stimulating, but the heart responds to simplicity and this month’s playlist is stripped down with powerfully minimal and uncluttered songs. Charlotte Cornfield keeps it ”Cut and Dry“, Amerie responds to ”Just 1 Thing“, Nico ponders on the little things ”These Days“ and ”Let it Be“ is simple but sage advice especially when sung by Aretha. So cue it up and simply let it play."
