Peer Groups

Building an online writing habit is hard — especially when you’re doing it alone.

Inside Write of Passage, you’ll have an alumni mentor supporting you each week in your Peer Group. These sessions happen throughout the week at global-friendly time zones. These smaller groups are tight-knit tribes inside the Write of Passage community.

Peer Groups help you stay accountable while getting to know a small group of your peers — it’s your cohort within a cohort. To improve these connections, Peer Groups are sorted along two dimensions: accountability vs. support, and outcomes vs. creative expression.

Trained Editors

For every article you write, you will receive feedback from one of our trained Editors.

Led by our Editor in Chief, Michael Dean, these editors are intimately connected to the course content, so their feedback elevates the ideas I teach.

These editors provide tactics and support. They offer thoughtful, actionable feedback on essay structure and how to share your ideas in ways that are engaging and easy to understand.

They're your quality assurance team — your rocket fuel and your net. They will supercharge your writing and catch you if you fall.

I can tell you from years of experience teaching Write of Passage, most people have never received this type of personal attention on their ideas. It feels amazing, and the improvements in your writing will be exponential.

Peer Feedback

Feedback is our course’s secret weapon.

I just told you about the Editors who ensure every student and every essay receives quality feedback. I haven’t even mentioned peer feedback. You'll exchange feedback with your fellow students too. By diving into other people’s writing, you will sharpen your own.

Peer feedback strengthens writing, thinking, and communication skills bi-directionally, for the reader and writer. It's also a friendship accelerator — think of all you can learn about someone from a well-written article about their worldview.

Live Gyms

We don't just talk about ideas. We help you implement them in live gyms each week:

• Writing Gyms – Drop in for silent, focused writing time with your peers. Available in three-hour blocks each weekday.
• Idea Gyms – Refine your ideas through focused 1:1 breakouts and “write from conversation.” Thursdays and Fridays. 
• Feedback Gyms – Exchange live, 1:1 feedback with your peers. Read and react in real-time. Mondays and Tuesdays. 
• Publishing Gyms – Overcome your inner critic, polish your piece, and hit the “Publish” button as a group. Each Wednesday before the Live Session.  

Let me ask you this: Are you surrounded by people who encourage you to write? Do you have a group of people with whom you can jam on ideas? If not, I want this for you. That’s what these gyms offer you. You don’t have to write in solitude. In Write of Passage, writing is social.

Imagine having hundreds of your peers cheering you on — willing to share their experience, encourage you, ease your struggles, and expose you to new creators and resources. That’s the Write of Passage community. Talk about wind at your back.

Inside Circle

Let me quickly introduce you to Circle, our community platform.

Inside Circle, you’ll find the course curriculum, spaces of interest, student directory, bios, recordings, a water cooler, Q&A, live chat, instructions, location groups, and of course, articles! It's the glue of our community.

Encouragement flies in every direction. It’s wild — like having a stadium of people cheering you on.

Location Groups are where students build camaraderie with others in their region and organize in-person meet-ups.

Share Your Wins is where our alumni post their big and small wins, and the community cheers them on — the more bragging, the better, since the energy and momentum here is contagious.

I only showed you a snippet of what's inside to wet your whistle. For the actual experience, you'll have to join the course. 

The next cohort closes for enrollment this Monday, September 25, and Cohort 11 kicks off on October 2. It's fast-paced and interactive learning — nothing like the stuff you learned in school.
