When they started:
1. They built hundreds of simple utility apps.
2. These apps gained search traffic from App Store/Google Play + organic referral traffic.
3. Then all the apps cross-promoted and advertised to download Dolphin.

This approach is very similar to content marketing but applied to apps:
1. You create a ton of articles, focused on different keywords.
2. They gain search/referral traffic.
3. Then you convert this traffic into your product's customers.

Nice approach if you have a team of developers.
