What if your unofficial role and field?

My unofficial roles are layered and rooted in the practice of love-ethics. I exist to connect on a deep level with people, practices, and spaces that tend and root in care and liberation for and with each other:
​
🌱I support - as a coach and facilitator of anti-racist practice and somatic abolition spaces.

🌱I write - children’s picture books (my first co-published book is about the incredible Saudi women’s human rights defender Loujain AlHathloul) and blogs.

🌱I organise - with racial justice practitioners and fellow disruptors in the sector (as the facilitator and initiator of The Racial Equity Index, and the Board Chair of Systemic Justice).

How did you get to where you are today in your career?

A lot of survival but also through moving through, at times, what never made sense to anyone else but always made sense to me. I have worked in 7 sectors thus far (service industry, military, healthcare, education, community organiser, consulting, writing/publishing) in my career. But I haven’t ‘gotten’ anywhere in my career - I am constantly arriving to different places of learning, awareness, and realisations.

What kind of support are you most excited to receive at this point in your career?

The support I appreciate and am excited about is that of community - one of the reasons I am a Bloomer! I am interested in connecting with people who are in practice with themselves and ask the hard questions of how we show up in the world and relate to each other in our work.

Your relationship to “social impact”: has it evolved since you began your career?

My relationship to social impact is always evolving - it must because the veil of what we consider ‘impactful’ keeps being pulled back and our understanding of the structures that the social impact sector has been built on becomes more clear. As a result, we are in constant learning and unlearning of our own preconceptions of what impact is on a personal, relational and sector-wide level.

Articles or books?

Currently my reading list is comprised of books on racial trauma theory (for coursework) but also I love supplementing with fiction books like Me Moth by Amber McBride which I just finished and am now reading, Wizard of the Crow by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o. Books I always return to: all about love by bell hooks and Freedom is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis.

🌳 Fellowships

​Just Tech Fellowship: 2-year, full-time, remote fellowship that supports a diverse community of researchers and practitioners dedicated to investigating the intersection of technology and social justice. Selected fellows receive an award of $100,000 per year.

​Minorities Fellowship Program OHCHR: Fully-funded training program designed to equip human rights and minority rights defenders with the knowledge and skills to effect change in their communities. Participants engage in strategic dialogues with fellow activists, the United Nations, and Geneva-based NGOs.

​ICANN Fellowship Program: Aimed at providing funding and opportunities for individuals all over the globe from underserved and underrepresented communities to attend the ICANN80 Policy Forum in Kigali, Rwanda in June 2024 and become active participants in the ICANN community.
​
​Storytelling Fellowship for Latin America: Connects regional filmmakers and social innovators in Latin America to produce solutions-focused short documentaries that catalyze positive change.

💸Grants

​FREE STEM Fund: Up to 50,000 EUR in funds for initiatives and projects from registered and unregistered initiatives, groups, collectives, and organisations from the Global South with a focus on the rights of girls, women, transgender and non-binary people and STEM.

​Call for Proposals - IOM Mission in Egypt: 70,000 EUR in grants to organizations developing projects to support the most vulnerable migrants, refugees, and host communities in Egypt and providing essential assistance and protection to at-risk groups.

💡 The app as created in conjunction with 1000 Latinas and a dozen Latin American grassroots organizations, in collaboration with leading international sexual and reproductive health organizations.

📚 This digital accompaniment tool has an up-to-date resource section, where individuals can find options for abortion pills, clinics, funding, help with logistics if they need to travel out of state, and emotional support during the process, no matter where they are in the country.
