If you are thinking to grow by expanding to international markets, here are some recommendations by Selina Tobaccowala - former President & CTO at SurveyMonkey:

1. Buying a local domain is critical for good SEO rankings.
2. On average, English is 1.5x shorter than other languages (affects your UI).
3. People in Japan love brighter and busier homepages.
4. Key content for different markets should be truly different (direct translation doesn't work).
5. Payments are different (bank transfer in Germany, Carte Bleu in France, etc.)
6. Taxes are different.
7. More people access websites from multiple devices. Utilize user-based A/B testing instead of cookie-based, especially for pricing.
8. Currency exchange rates always change.
9. International customers are extremely wary about where you are storing their data (keep local data local).
10. International Android market share is over 80%.

Internationally, there are 9 times more smart phone users than in the US (188M vs 1.6B) and the growth rate is 2 times higher (12% vs 24%) year over year.
