🌍 Migrant Women Press
We are migrant women-led, written exclusively by migrant women. We discuss migration through women’s lenses and investigate how the intersections of race, gender, class, nationality and disability impact women’s experiences in a new country. Our mission is to amplify migrant women’s voices, reshaping migration narratives and bringing diversity into the media landscape. I founded Migrant Women Press for two main reasons: firstly, to rediscover my voice in journalism. With nearly a decade of journalistic experience in my home country Brazil, I encountered numerous challenges when seeking opportunities in the European media sector. It resulted in a nearly ten-year gap in my journalism career. As I recognised that other women faced similar obstacles, I created this platform to foster connections among women and amplify our collective voices. Secondly, Migrant Women Press was created to redefine migration narratives. Although migration is a leading topic in newsrooms in Europe, the complexities of migrants’ experiences are overlooked and portrayed in a hostile, biased and stereotyped way. There is a glaring absence of fair and compassionate discussions surrounding migration. 🌍Yalla Arabee
