Trevor McKendrick - How to do things

Hi all,

A thing I’ve learned many times, and have seen happen in the world, is that you can just decide to do something.

You can decide to get in shape.

You can decide to start whatever insane business.

You can decide to work for the company you’ve dreamed of working for.

“This is who I am, this is what I’m about.”

It feels so trite writing these words.

But I want to balance out the overwhelming voice of the world that you don’t have agency, that much of life is chance, that there’s not really anything you can do.

It’s just wrong. It is. The people who believe they can do something are the ones who do something. And the causal arrow runs from the 1st half of that sentence into the 2nd.

The causal arrow starts inside your mind, with what you believe about the world, and what you believe about yourself.

If you don’t believe the world is malleable then you won’t try to change it.

If you believe the world is entirely changeable to your own whims & desires, you might not be 100% correct but you will affect far more change & get much more of what you want than the person who believes the opposite.

Once every part of your life is aligned around a goal, the odds of success are not 100% but they are far higher than what the world would tell you.
