How to remove backlinks: If you’ve received a manual action, you should first try to remove the links from the other site and then disavow any that you can’t get removed. But what if you don’t have a manual action? Then consider these scenarios:

Keyword diversification (cannibalization’s good twin): Classic SEO theory says that if you rank with more than one page for a keyword, it’s a cannibalization issue, and you should fix it. But when Mateusz carefully reviewed a sample of 80 keywords with multiple rankings, he found only one case that needed action. Which means: You can potentially take advantage of Google’s propensity for multiple rankings and can get more traffic out of a keyword.

The discussion forums dominating product review search results: In an analysis of 10,000 keyphrases where product reviews rank highly, Google’s increasingly prominent ‘Discussions and forums’ SERP feature was present in 7,702 of them. Reddit was the most dominant brand in the results by far. Even worse: 51% of Reddit’s top-ranking threads currently have spam as a top comment.

Don’t build the SaaS around the audience, build the audience around the SaaS: Customers don’t impulse buy SaaS and they don’t buy tools to support their favorite creators. SaaS businesses need to target people who are either actively looking for their solution or have a very strong and clear use case for it.

Content promotion: An article is simply a vessel. When we create content, we’re usually doing it in service of a larger goal: sharing an idea. If we look at content promotion from that perspective, we can remove the constraint of “promoting an article” and do things not traditionally associated with content promotion: Appear on podcasts (or make one), publish YouTube videos, speak at conferences, share freely on social media, and more.
