🥽 Should startups be building on Apple Vision Pro?

This Week at YC

February 23rd, 2024

Two weeks ago we launched Lightcone, a twice-a-month podcast where YC Group Partners Garry, Diana, Harj, and Jared talk about new tech and what it means for the future. In the spirit of shipping early and often, we skipped most of the fanfare/buildup and debuted the first episode as soon as we could hit export. And it worked! People seem to love it.

This week they’re back with another episode, this time focusing on the Apple Vision Pro. It’s deliberately not a hardware review — you can find those on a billion different YouTube channels. Instead, it’s a super insightful dive into what Apple has accomplished here, and what new possibilities this platform opens up for startups.

(Plus it gave them an excuse for this opening shot:)

Is this another “iPhone moment”, wherein the foundation has been poured for an entirely new set of startups? Should founders start building here now? What does YC look for in teams building around AR/VR? They get into all that and more. Come peer into the future with us.

"When a startup is competing against a large competitor, they aren't competing with the *entire* company, they are likely competing with some PM focused on internal politics/career progression.

With this framing, it shouldn't be surprising to see startups win as often as they do."
