My strategy is always the same:

I study the most successful people doing THAT ONE THING… then I go DO IT.

• I wanted 100k YouTube subs, so I studied… Thomas Frank's channel.
• I wanted 1M visitors from SEO, so I studied… Food Truck Empire's blog.
• I wanted 100K email subscribers, so I studied… Matt Paulson's newsletter business.

Then, I become a detective.

I read the case study. I visit every page on their website. I join their email lists. I email the founder lots of questions.

I become a sponge and soak up all of the information I possibly can.

Then, I copy what worked for them, and avoid what didn't.

It’s that simple!

But... here’s the real secret:

I rarely study people in my own niche.

I go out and study random businesses in all sorts of niches, sometimes completely unrelated to my own.

Most importantly, I study businesses that are actually making money.

I do not study the latest trending marketing strategies or business models that everyone is talking about on Twitter.

I study what's actually working for real businesses.
