Imagine you're in the 1960's. It's the height of the cold war.

The Soviet Union is shipping nukes to Cuba so they have more leverage over the US and you're a soviet soldier who suddenly sees a few bleeps on his radar screen. Bleeps that normally represent incomding missiles (from the US).

It's in the middle of the night and these bleeps are moving fast. You have seconds to make a decission wether to wake up your President or not.

The procedure is simple. If you see incoming missiles, you contact your superiors. But this simple guy ignores the system and just sits there and thinks.

He's like: why would the US only send a few missiles. If they wanted to destroy all our missile capabilities they would've launched hundreds if not thousands of missiles at us.

The soldier decides not to call his superiors.

It turned out to be a malfunctioning computer who thought cloud reflections were incoming missiles.

Why am I telling this to a 21st century creator like you?

Simple: If you want to make a difference:

NEVER RELY ON THE SYSTEM

Always rely on yourself. On you as the individual.

Yes, build an audience on 𝕏 but don't forget to build your "owned" email list.

Yes, don't ignore the algorithm and go with the flow, but alwasy remember that if everyone zigs you should zag.

That one thing, your individualism and the fact that you can see what's happening and taking a right turn because the herd is taking a left turn is what differentiates succesful creators from the rest of the pack.

Instagram announced its intention to give more distribution to creators that post original pieces of content, even if they have a small following:

"We have been working on a new way to rank recommendations to give all creators an equal chance of breaking through. Through this process, every piece of eligible content (e.g., content that is original, does not violate our community guidelines, has no visible watermarks and satisfies our recommendation guidelines) is shown to a small audience that we think will enjoy it, regardless of whether they follow the account that posted it or not."

As part of this process, when the Instagram algorithm finds two or more identical pieces of content, it will recommend the original one, instead of promoting the one with more engagement.

As a new way to connect and engage, LinkedIn is introducing games to its platform.

At the moment, you can find the first 3, Crossclimb, Pinpoint, and Queens, in the News module on your LinkedIn homepage, or the MyNetwork tab.
