Amazon counterfeits have leveled up [Crew Review]

Hey Reader,

Are you familiar with Cassey Ho, a.k.a. Blogilates? If not, you should know that she’s a Youtuber who specializes in workout videos and has since built her own company, Popflex.

Recently, Amazon listings selling dupes of her products popped up on the platform, showing Cassey’s videos—with her face replaced.

It was a reverse deepfake.

This Week’s Trending Product: Dinosaur-Themed Birthday Decors

We’re still trying to figure out why the humans who spent the least number of years on Earth are those who are very much attracted to a species that went extinct millions of years ago. But they have in fact become more popular based on the monthly search volume on Amazon.

The keyword “dinosaur themed birthday decorations” saw a yearly growth of 503% and a monthly growth of 46%. Search results include banners, balloons, tableware, and more.

So while the creatures that inspired the products are already extinct, sellers who have these decors in their catalog aren’t going anywhere just yet.

Amazon Seller Spotlight: Woot

If you’re a gamer or were at one point looking for a replacement for your mouse on Amazon, then you may have come across our featured seller of the week.

Woot is a top Amazon seller that focuses on electronic accessories and games (at least on Amazon). However, on their website, they sell just about anything. Yep—they even have something they call Bags of Crap where their customers can receive absolutely anything, from expired batteries to brand new laptops.

Established in 2004, Woot started out as an original daily deals site, offering just one product a day for a crazy low price until they sell out. In 2010, it was bought by Amazon.

Etc.

Dark patterns. This is not the first time we’re reporting about Amazon’s alleged involvement in deliberately making it difficult for customers to unsubscribe to its services. Now, Arizona is joining the list of litigants.

Is Walmart downsizing? The company confirmed that it’s laying off hundreds of corporate employees and relocating a lot of its remote workers.

New leadership. Andy Jassy announced that AWS will have a new CEO starting June 3.
