As the Olympic Games in Paris intensify, it’s hard not to marvel at the elite talent, discipline and high performance on display. Millions around the globe watch in awe, inspired by athletes who have dedicated countless hours and years to training, often far from any bright lights or roaring crowds.

Miyamoto Musashi, a renowned swordsman, once said, "The purpose of today’s training is to defeat yesterday’s understanding."

While we may not be representing our country or vying for medals, each of us is competing against ourselves to discover and cultivate excellence in our lives and leadership.

In both sports and leadership, greatness will always require a relentless, often thankless, pursuit. Remember, excellence is a mindset, not a destination. It will always require a level of sweat equity ― embracing challenges, confronting resistance, and committing to continuous growth, especially on the days when our minds and bodies tell us to quit.

As we admire the feats of these athletes, we can draw inspiration from their example. Whether it’s in a Gold Medal round or in the boardroom, excellence requires us to compete, to be disciplined — and to always choose resilience.
