It’s Wednesday, November 13, and this week, we’re asking newsletter operators how they named their newsletters. But first…

I’m co-hosting a webinar with Beefree on Tuesday, November 19, where we’ll talk through best practices for setting up landing pages that convert more readers into newsletter subscribers. (If you can’t make it live, that’s OK! Register and we’ll send you the recording + bonus resources after.) It’s completely free to join, and I promise you’ll walk away with at least 2-3 things you can do to grow your list faster. Register here

I’ve found LinkedIn to be a useful channel for meeting new folks and discovering interesting newsletter content, and I’d love if you connected with me there. But if you do, will you also attach a note to your connection request? I accept pretty much every request as long as they add a note…

We Asked a Dozen Newsletter Operators How They Named Their Newsletters. Here’s What They Told Us.

How do you come up with a good name for a newsletter? Some are straightforward and clear. Others lean into a writer’s name or topic. Some names are carefully considered, informed by past mistakes. Others made a last-minute gut decision.

So Claire Zulkey reached out to a few operators to learn about the origins of their newsletter’s name, including:
  • Joanna Goddard of Big Salad
  • Lindsey Stanberry of The Purse
  • Melinda Moyer of Is My Kid the Asshole?
  • Ryan Broderick of Garbage Day
Here’s what they told us about how and why they titled their newsletters — and what you should keep in mind when you name your next newsletter.

What’s the difference between the newsletters that grow quickly and those that don’t? The secret is often a well-optimized newsletter landing page.

A great landing page is a hugely important piece in your growth strategy. It gives you the chance to make a great first impression, convert new readers to subscribers, and start building trust with your audience.

I see too many newsletters make big mistakes with their landing pages — and it’s hurting their growth.

So I’m co-hosting a webinar on November 19 with Beefree to make sure you don’t make those same mistakes.

Join me and two friends from the email world — Justine Jordan, the head of strategy and community at Beefree, and Mike Nelson, co-founder of Really Good Emails — as we walk through:
  • The must-haves for pages that convert, from copy to scroll-stopping design.
  • How to use a landing page to trigger immediate engagement with your newsletter.
  • What data to collect on a landing page — and what to leave off.
  • Tips for protecting your landing page from bots.
And we’ll showcase some of our favorite newsletter landing pages, too.

The webinar’s on Tuesday, November 19 at 6pm Europe / 12pm Eastern / 9am Pacific. It’s completely free to join. (If you can’t make it live, that’s OK! Register and we’ll send you the recording + bonus resources after.)
