There’s 1 truth I’ve been thinking about that seems so damn simple, it feels weird to say it out loud…

You don’t need to start a business to own a business.

You’d be surprised how few people realize this.

That instead of spending years trying to reinvent the wheel, you can buy the damn car — one that’s already running — and improve on it. That you can own something cash-flowing today and skip the ramen noodles.

Don’t get me wrong, buying and owning a business is FAR from easy, but it’s also bigger than that. It’s about legacy, too.

When you buy a small business, you’re not just buying it; you’re often saving it. You’re keeping local ownership alive, all while building a future that’s truly yours.

So these insights will change the way you see ownership — not just as a chance to get ahead, but as a mission.

1-in-6 Jobs Are At Risk if We Do Nothing

Baby Boomers are the proud owners of millions of small businesses in the U.S., employing millions of people.

These businesses don’t just keep paychecks flowing — they support millions of families and by extension, hundreds of millions of Americans.

In other words, whether they know it or not, a HUGE chunk of the population is riding on these businesses to grow in the long term.

But here’s where things get shaky:

• Nearly 2/3 of family businesses don’t have a documented or communicated succession plan.
  
  
• Only 30% of small businesses actually sell, leaving 70% floundering without a buyer or plan for the future.

BIG problem (and missed opportunity), if you ask me. The good news is we have an answer…

Right now, we’re seeing a massive convergence of 3 trends.

• Boomers aging out
• People second-guessing their careers

Cash flow, local employment, and leadership who actually cares about their community.

If we don’t step up, Main Street risks becoming a soulless wasteland of PE-owned chains and corporate blah.

Some days, I wonder if we’ve completely forgotten why we’re entrepreneurs.

When did we become a cult of vitamin-D-deprived, Allbird-wearing, alternative-milk-drinking, extreme PowerPointers? Many of us have gotten soft. We don’t climb mountains, we only take risks for other people, and we sit behind keyboards bragging about to make:

• The most money
• By employing the fewest people
• And doing the least amount of work

What a strange thing to strive for.

The coolest entrepreneurs don’t exist just for a bunch of zeros and some big exit, but because they’re crazy people willing things into very existence.

I recently read this beautifully somber quote:

“We are the middle children of history. Born too late to explore earth, born too early to explore space.”

Well, I think builders are this generation’s explorers.

The feeling of being so damn unemployable your only option is building something and figuring out how to make it work. The inability to sleep because of dreams so big people laugh when you tell them.

Those are the entrepreneurs I admire. My husband and I have a saying:

“Protect those who can’t, cast aside those who won’t, enable those who want.”

Here’s to all of you doers, not the talkers. We’re doing this for the builders, not the consumers. We’re doing this for Main Street.
