The Conversation - From Alabama to Alaska, with your help
No images? Click here Dear Reader, In the first decade of The Conversation U.S., we’ve determined that our articles were read 1.3 billion times. And that’s an undercount. It doesn’t include when they’ve appeared in print newspapers or been made into videos, or when, for a variety of technical reasons, we don’t get a pageview count from republishers. But only 30% of the billion-plus reads were on our own website. The rest came through our distribution model: We give away our articles for free to other news organizations to strengthen what they do and help them provide research-based, trustworthy, quality journalism to their readers. It’s a valuable service, especially when so many established news organizations are struggling to stay afloat − and small startups are fighting to get established. We help them by providing journalism they don’t have the resources to produce themselves and that their audiences care about. And that’s why their editors love what we do. And their readers do, too. Dylan Smith, editor and co-publisher of the nonprofit Tucson Sentinel, recently told us: "Our partnership with The Conversation provides our Southern Arizona readers with broad viewpoints and deep context from experts that augments our own original journalism." Hundreds of news websites and newspapers use our articles every month, from nonprofit startups like the Sentinel and the Hopkinsville, KY Chronicle to legacy newspapers like the Sioux Falls (SD) Argus-Leader and The Washington Post, from the pop culture site Inverse to the policy site Government Executive, and from Smithsonian Magazine to the educational site CommonLit. We can give away our journalism because people like you step up to make it possible. Giving today has three benefits: 1) Your gift will be doubled, dollar for dollar, by our board, which is matching $75,000 in gifts. 2) We’ll send you three downloadable e-books with some of our best articles. 3) You’ll support the free distribution of our journalism, along with our efforts in 2025 to reach even more people, in more formats and on more platforms. Our journalism reaches people from Alabama to Alaska, and from Maine to California, thanks to the support of our generous readers. With gratitude, Joel Abrams How to donate:
