Val Geisler - finding clarity in uncertainty

Black Friday is one of the biggest weekends of the year for retail... but it actually doesn't have to be.

I screenshot this from my friend Nick's recent email:

"If your business needs the economic impact of a single holiday weekend to survive, look deeper." -Nick Disabato

BFCM (Black Friday Cyber Monday) is a cornerstone of both sales and stress for most businesses.

I feel it, you feel it, your inbox feels it.

And this year, more than any other year, the stress and expectations are high.

Black Friday has to make up for lost sales earlier in the year.

Black Friday has to help make payroll.

Black Friday has to clear our backstock of products before we can launch anything new.

That's a lot of pressure on a single day.

A day that, more or less, is entirely out of your control. (sorry, not sorry)

All of these unprecedented times, their worries and their what ifs, extend into Black Friday and through the holidays.

What if we don't hit our sales goals on Friday?

What if we see mass unsubscribes and have to build our list up again?

What if there's another shutdown?

What will we do if we can't get orders shipped on time?

Unprecedented = uncertain.

And uncertainty can make your head spin.

Clarity, the opposite of uncertainty, comes not from knowing what's going to happen, but from knowing you only have so much control over what's to come.

Clarity is a gift. And it will take you further than any last minute ad spend or middle of the night panic as you check your ReCharge payments.

So I got together with my friend Nick (the wise human who wrote that incredible passage above) and we started chatting. Then we hit record.

What came out of those conversations is what anyone on the internet might predict... a podcast.

Finding Clarity is a podcast about what it takes for your business to thrive.

We aren't handing out CRO or email marketing advice (though we have that in droves between the two of us). We're talking about the real stuff that makes you successful: your health, your sanity, and your confidence.

This topic is so important that our friends at Klaviyo even wanted to partner with us on it. They believe in you, and so do we.

If you're looking for clarity this holiday season and beyond, come check out an episode or two. Subscribe, leave a review, tell a friend, etc.

Oh, and the iTunes gods have yet to bestow their blessing on us so right now the show is available to you on Spotify, Google, Breaker FM, and Podcast Addict. And right on our website too.

If you listen, would you tweet me about it? I'd love to hear what you think.

-Val

TL;DR: Nick Disabato and I launched a podcast. Listen here.
