The Forty-Five - The best songs of 2020

View this email in your browser
Hello,

I know, it's Saturday. But we like to mix things up.

As we approach the end of the year, we've been considering the music that has made 2020 that bit more bearable. Our albums of the year will be revealed next week but for now, we'll leave you with the best songs of 2020. Whatever you're up to this weekend – venturing out for the first time in weeks or still hibernating in the hope that we all make it through to vaccineland safely – we recommend revisiting some of the year's best tracks.
TRACKS OF THE YEAR
Dig into our much-debated list of the top songs of 2020.
A LOVE LETTER TO TOPSHOP
Sure, Phillip Green = Dick and fast fashion is a no. But Topshop was a big part of noughties indie kids' lives and its loss makes us feel things. From the Kate Moss collabs to the in-store soundtracks, Jenessa Williams looks back at a shop that provided the uniform to the indie landfill years.
CHEWING THE FAT WITH BENEE AND MALLRAT
Cardi and Megan, Elton and Gorillaz... 2020 has seen some exciting and unusual collaborations. Antipodean angels, Benee and Mallrat teamed up on new track 'Winter'. We sat in on a chat between the two artists about the music they've been listening to, the enviable fact that they're both already playing COVID-free festivals and singing in Simlish (yes, that's the made-up language in The Sims).
ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS SONGS FOR AN ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS
It's official: Slade are out and 100 gecs are in. Christmas is gonna be weird, so eschew your usual playlist full of festive cheer for these slightly leftfield offerings. Warning: some are bloody depressing.
MEET THE POP DISRUPTERS
The pop landscape has changed a lot over the last couple of years – and thank God! These are the pioneering artists, doing things a bit differently.
