Album Daily
#63 - The Week of February 1 - 5

Happy February everyone! The month that's shorter and sweeter than the rest... looking at you Valentine's Day. To kick off the second month of the year we've got a Grammy Nominee ( Phoebe Bridgers), a band with an email for a name ( ceo@business.net) and an inaugural album from a really "fun." band.

Thanks for bearing with our two puns in three sentences.

Enjoy this week's albums. You've earned it.

This one's a CURVEBALL. Do not open this album if you're looking for something artsy with a lot of thoughtfulness and soul searching. The only way I can describe this album is the result of a parody hip hop artist brushing shoulders with a low-key-kind-of-nice funky R&B producer in the hallway. This combination...kind of works though. Listen at your own risk. Take it as it is. Enjoy.

Ok, I'll come clean, it's an EP and not an album. But this series of beeps and bops, rivaled only by Mr Krab's robot radio, takes you on a journey to what I feel like an energetic elevator on Mars would sound like. It's really great light listening for when your mind can't do words on a laptop and words in a song at the same time.

Punisher

Phoebe Bridgers

Genre: Folk
Release Date: JuJune 18, 2020
Top Tracks: Garden Song, Kyoto, I Know The End
Similar Artists: Florence + The Machine, HAIM, St. Vincent

So we're a little late to this one. But better late than never! On Punisher Phoebe hauntingly sings about ex-lovers, missed opportunities and life's everyday annoyances. Need a good cry in your bed? Have a flower vase you've been meaning to smash over an ex's head? Have an indie film you need a score for? Look no further than Punisher.

Genre: Pop
Release Date: August 25, 2009
Top Tracks: Walking the Dog, The Gambler, All the Pretty Girls
Similar Artists: Neon Trees, Matt and Kim

Surely you've heard of "Some Nights," fun.'s most notable anthem that took over the pop music scene in 2012. But let's head back to their inaugural album, which candidly, is a full step above. Ya I said it. Aim and Ignite has got a vintage feel to it, laced with simple piano progressions, barbershop-esque harmonies, and inspiring guitar. At times it sounds like it could be part of a Broadway musical, but it's prowess is shown through its ballads that could rival any (light) rock concert.

Celebrity Crush

Shoos Off

Genre: Indie-Alternative
Release Date:  October 9, 2017
Top Tracks: Song for Radio, Too Late
Similar Artists:  MGMT, Death Cab for Cutie, Passion Pit

I don't have a convertible. BUT I imagine if I did I would listen to this album while riding in it off into a So-Cal beach sunset. Groovy as it is angsty this album is perfect for some solo-driving thinking time. Vocals that are perfectly nasaly and punky, I'm so glad we found this one from Shoos Off.
