His first interview since selling for $4M 👇

Lots of episodes focusing on the founder's journey (incl. how Sam Parr built The Hustle, which was acquired this week).

A $4M Exit with Josh Pigford of Baremetrics

Josh Pigford launched Baremetrics in 2013. Last year, he sold the analytics SaaS company for $4 million.

In his first podcast interview since selling (confirmed via Listen Notes), he reflects on the 7-year journey, why he sold (and what he did afterwards), as well as a feature launch last year that he calls the company's "single biggest morale destroyer."

Noteworthy insights:

  • Josh says growth mainly came from product improvements and content marketing. In the early days, Josh famously wrote weekly blog posts, but that wasn't sustainable while growing the company. He wanted marketing to be a magic bullet (who doesn't?) but felt that they never really found the combination of channels (outside of content) that worked for them.
  • They did a ton of customer research and legwork before launching a new feature in 2020. The team was confident and felt like they'd done everything right with potential customers signing up to be notified when it launched. It launched and they didn't get a single paying customer. In hindsight, Josh recognizes he didn't spend enough time discussing pricing while doing market research.
