Episode 277: The Importance of Founder Persistence & Mindset

In 2014, Advait and his co-founders built a Chrome extension to help schools with web filtering. They were excited to get it to market.

Unfortunately, no one was interested in their solution...

They sent hundreds of cold emails...

Most of those emails were ignored. Others told them that they weren't interested. It was rejection after rejection.

The founders were almost ready to give up on their idea.

But thanks to the persistence of one of the co-founders who kept emailing people, they eventually found a few early users.

Sometime later, the team tried to raise funding. They were told that:

  • They were too young and inexperienced
  • The K-12 school market didn't have money
  • Focusing on Chromebooks was the wrong strategy

Fortunately, the founders didn’t listen.

Today, their product is used by 18 million students (1/3 of all K-12 students in the US. The company employs over 300 people and generates north of $50M in annual recurring revenue (ARR).

This week's quote is an Ancient Greek aphorism:

" Know thyself"

📕 Book of the Week
This weeks' recommendation is:

Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion by Sam Harris

"Harris’s book . . . caught my eye because it’s so entirely of this moment, so keenly in touch with the growing number of Americans who are willing to say that they do not find the succor they crave or a truth that makes sense to them, in organized religion." (New York Times)
