🎵 We've got Jazz, Indie, Hip-Hop, and Electronic musical masterpieces for you this week

Album Daily
#65 - The Week of February 15 - 19

Not sure what's worse; getting stuck in a music rut or not buying Bitcoin at the $30k dip because you thought it was due for a crash. Either way, you can't live in the past and need to focus on the future. Here's to trying out new music and buying low on new cryptocurrencies.

Whitney, Cosmo's Midnight, Peach Pit, Jordan Rakei, and Towkio are here to help with one of those things.

Now, turn those speakers up!

Genre: Indie-Alternative
Release Date: August 30, 2019
Top Tracks: Used To Be Lonely, Forever Turned Around, Giving Up
Similar Artists: Dr. Dog, Kurt Vile, Father John Misty

Forever Turned Around is and album that's best enjoyed barefoot on a hardwood floor while cooking breakfast as the sun creeps in through the window. The album seems to wrap you up in a nice big welcoming hug throughout its relatively brief 10-song progression. If you like the lead singer's falsetto then you're going to love this album. If you don't like it, well you're probably going to hate the album to be completely honest... but there's only one way to find out! So kick off those shoes and throw an egg in the skillet. I hope you're a hugger!

Origin (Deluxe Edition)

Jordan Rakei

Cover 2

Genre: Jazz
Release Date: June 14, 2019
Top Tracks: Tom Misch, Disclosure, Elder Island
Similar Artists: Say Something, Mind's Eye

It's part jazz, part hip-hop, part electronic and all FUNKY. It's not exactly clear what genre Jordan Rakei's latest piece falls into but what's abundantly clear is that it's a complex and rich masterpiece. It's layered with piercing synths, rich vocals and smooth bass undertones. Rakei has already had a history of notable features and we think he's got more coming because he's truly a Swiss Army knife musician.

WWW

Towkio

Genre: Hip-Hop
Release Date: February 23, 2018
Top Tracks: Swim, Hot Shit, 2 Da Moon
Similar Artists: Vic Mensa, Joey Purp

Towkio originally gained popularity as part of the Savemoney Crew, a Chicago based collective including the likes Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Joey Purp. He really steps into his own with WWW, a fun-loving feel good set of tunes that keeps you guessing at every turn. While it can feel erratic at times, Towkio's genius comes in his diverse set of samples that range from orchestral riffs to funky jungle drums to school kids shouting. I would be remiss if I didn't share the funnest of all facts about WWW. Towkio quite literally dropped this album out of nowhere - no seriously, he rode a helium balloon 19 miles into the stratosphere, listened to his bops, and parachuted back down. What a legend.

Yesteryear

Cosmo's Midnight

Genre: Electronic
Release Date: October 1, 2020
Top Tracks: Yesteryear, It's Love, Down for You
Similar Artists: Mura Masa, BAYNK

The twin brothers of Cosmo's Midnight (Cosmo & Patrick Liney) bring us an album with some serious style. These guys have found their sound and they know it. This album is a bass player's dream sprinkled with every percussion instrument you can think of. Enjoy with a Pina Colada, hip sways, and get your mojo back Austin Powers-style.

You and Your Friends

Peach Pit

Genre: Indie-Alternative
Release Date: April 3, 2020
Top Tracks: Shampoo Bottles, Brian's Movie, Black Licorice
Similar Artists: Hippo Campus, Sure Sure, Modest Mouse

This album is a guest recommendation brought to us by our instagram friend Adele!

I could talk about the soft, beachy sound that Peach Pit creates in You and Your Friends or the cool fact that Peach Pit wears the same outfit for every performance, but I mainly think of family when I listen to this album.

My sister (@carolinesinegar) recently moved to Washington, D.C. for Law School, making 2020 the first year that we’d be living in different states indefinitely. We felt we needed to find a way to stay more deeply connected in our time apart, so we thought to create playlists for each other. Her addition Shampoo Bottles by Peach Pit stood out to me for its guitar riff and lyrical vulnerability. This whole album is unique and catchy, but it's also an honest reflection of human experience. definitely should be included in your next musical binge!!"
