Finding America’s Hidden Figures—Past And Present

“I got immaculate vision, no cataracts in my pupils / Don't understand my decisions, so I don't need your approval” - T.I., “Hypno”

While For(bes) The Culture is ramping up efforts to celebrate the Black community in June, it’s not enough to dedicate one month to highlighting Black history—this should be a reality 365 days a year. This is the basis of our yearlong State of Black Entrepreneurship project. Every day it seems we uncover another hidden Black figure, like Dr. Gladys West, whose discoveries and research, along with those of Albert Einstein, shaped modern GPS technology.

The contributions Black people have long made to American society mustn’t be concealed anymore. Although a component of our initiative entails spotlighting many forgotten leaders, we’ll also feature a forward thinking framework, one that will ensure the Black leaders of today aren’t forgotten decades down the line. Stay tuned for the launch of the State of Black Entrepreneurship on March 9.

Spotlight On: Charlene Fadirepo

After 20 years in the banking industry, For(bes) The Culture member Charlene Fadirepo noticed that the Black community was often left out of wealth-building conversations. Through her company, Guidefi, she hopes to change that. The financial wellness business offers Black communities access to credentialed financial experts, educational experiences and a community of those for whom finance is a priority to help close the racial wealth gap.
