Don’t believe everything you see at first glance!

This screenshot from Own The Yard is 100% real.

My site appears to have gotten a huge boost from the Google update that is rumored to have happened over the weekend.

However, this screenshot is slightly deceiving, so I'm coming clean... Plus I'll explain why you should often be skeptical of "success" screenshots.

First, my traffic really did increase by nearly 24% when comparing this Sunday to last Sunday. HOWEVER, my traffic last Sunday was DOWN 24% from the previous Sunday.

In other words, my big traffic increase from yesterday was really just getting my traffic back exactly to where it was 2 weeks ago.

Second, you should always be asking questions from screenshots you see from others online.

Question if the photo appears edited.

Question if the photo is really representing what it appears to represent.

Question if the photo really means that success was achieved (in my example, not really...I'm just back to where I was).

You can be "less deceived" by knowing the history and reputation of the person sharing photos. Do they have a history of being honest? Or a history of being over-sensational? Does the person gain anything about lying about a screenshot?

This site is my public case study site that I started over 2 years ago and have documented the entire process on my blog. The site made $5,200 last month (you can read the income report here) and is on track to make about $5k again this month.
