Decent effort at the landscape map of tech tools optimised for remote work; useful not only for the potential discovery of new tooling (each has a cameo review) but also in the categorisation, which can help us visualise the stack as we’re building it.

When we hear about ‘storytelling’ in our business, it is mainly about the use of storytelling techniques to communicate a message to an audience. But sometimes, a straight up story does the job better. Superb fictionalised account of the challenges of building a new department in business. Somebody should do one for TA.

TikTok Resumes caused a bit of stir when I posted this in the fb group last week, but it’s a small innovation for a platform which is ceaselessly and fearlessly experimenting with it services. Seems to be the biggest return is to build cool with the kids by having a brand presence here, so this goes into the EVP bucket

Ben Evans is perhaps the No1 commentator on the Internet right now - worth a follow on twitter, where he does most of his stuff. His take on advertising is particularly acute, with this essay in essence a defence of the ad tracking business and a lament for its inevitable end. What replaces it is a question Evans asks, but no one else really has. Relevant especially to recruitment technology vendors here - how do you reach your customers when the ads don’t work? (aside from sponsoring brainfood that is)

Fun website which tracks how often Flemish politicians - whose open sessions are livestreamed by default - check their mobile phones. A lot has been said about ‘bossware’ and how uncomfortable we are at been tracked at work, but perhaps the issue is more who is doing the tracking….

Internal research conducted by Microsoft (including contributions from subdivisions Github, LinkedIn, Microsoft Research, Xbox and Azure) on the impact of pandemic on the future of work. It’s one of the most impressive pieces of primary research I’ve seen - relevant (company is the unit of analysis), comprehensive (varied impact according to role / function / department) and accessible (written in human language). Everyone should read / download.
