Good stories make the world go round. But life-changing stories, well, they're a different beast all-together. This podcast features a weekly guest who is masterfully interviewed by hosts Luke Colson and Kyle Wise about their extreme, personal life changing experiences. Car crashes, abuse, being paralyzed, witnessing crimes, abandonment, rejection, living in a foster home, cycling accidents, kidnappings, cults, and tons of other hair raising experiences are told through the stories of everyday people.

With a focus on survival, hope, and optimism, this podcast is a much needed dose of optimism in today's world.

Drunk Ex-Pastors

I love discovering long-running shows that not only have a deep back-catalogue to chew through, but have also built a certain mythos around their podcast. So what is this podcast about? Well I think the more accurate question to ask would be what is this show NOT about. It ranges widely in topics but the common refrain is a deeply funny and often insightful banter between two friends who at some point were pastors in their respective ministries. Jason and Christian do shots, drink cocktails, and pontificate on a vast array of cultural, political, and religious topics, many of which, as they readily admit they know absolutely nothing about. The host chemistry is strong with this one!

History That Doesn't Suck!

For long-time subscribers of this newsletter, you'll know that I have a particular weakness for history podcasts. It's THE single topic I found most fascinating in school, and I would wager a bet to say that in a significant portion of multiverses, the other me's went on to be some sort of history teacher or professor or something. That said, I'm always looking for fantastic history podcasts that will excite my history nerd boner (gross, I know). The History That Doesn't Suck is a terrific show with a major focus on American History, and I'm fairly certain you'll enjoy it as much as I have.

TRUE CRIME

Small Town Dicks

The true crime genre is so insanely saturated with shows that it's hard to find one that does something a little bit different with the format. But boy, let me tell you, this show is something altogether different. With a focus on true crime stories taking place in small town, this show features the ACTUAL detectives from each of the featured crimes. A really terrific addition to the galaxy of true crime podcasts.

HISTORY

History Unwritten

Oh boy... two history podcast recommendations in one newsletter. But hear me out. This one casts a wider net. With a focus on a guided narrative history of various historical civilizations from around the world, this podcast lays down a pretty good and compact introductions to places, peoples and cultures you may have never heard of. Well worth a listen to diversify your world-history knowledge.
