CXL - Family story inside
I have 7 updates for you this week. 1. On my mind 3 years ago, some of my family members traveled to Antigua for a holiday. In customs and immigration, their bags got searched and they found some bullets.
That family likes to go hunting every now and then. The bullets were found in their suitcase that they also used for hunting trips... and they just forgot it in there. 20 bullets.
My sister-in-law was arrested, taken in front of a judge who sentenced her to prison. US embassy couldn't help - "she broke the law!". She was having panic attacks in prison. Family (2 kids) freaking out. It was bad.
Some 20 years ago I worked at a software company that had a satellite office in Antigua. I contacted my old colleague who I knew had traveled to the Antigua office, and asked if he knew anyone who could help.
He did - the local CEO of the satellite office. He was a former Olympian athlete, well-respected and known in the community. He generously made calls to judges and other relevant parties, gave advice. That effort on his part + other angles my family was working combined worked, she was released and got back home.
Now, this was a lot of serendipity. I knew a guy who knew a guy who could pull some strings.
We've all had that happen to us. Serendipity.
Maybe you got a job through someone you met at a party. Maybe you made a deal with someone you talked to on an airplane. Maybe you met your significant other through a mutual friend.
The common thread is the same: relationships.
Life is relationships, the rest is just details, someone once said.
No matter your goals, relationships is the rocket ship to get you there.
You know the sayings - "contacts become contracts" and "your network is your net worth". Both true.
Your relationship with the right person can open that critical door for you when you need it.
The challenge is that often these critical connections rely on serendipity. You were in the right place at the right time - and met that someone.
But you can't manufacture serendipity... or can you?
I'm certainly giving it a try. I'm putting together an in-person event to create serendipity. A single day designed to get true ballers - people going places - to get to know each other.
SaaS founders and CMOs. Agency leaders and demand gen fanatics. Experimentation pros and growth marketers.
It's turning out to be "the room where it happens".
I look at the current attendee list, and it's like ridiculous what heavyweight ballers are gonna be there. It's insane. I'd pay 5k easy to be in that room. (The ticket is not 5k)
The event is called CXL10 - taking place on November 17th in Austin, TX.
If you believe that knowing the right people can make a difference, you'll wanna be there.

How do you guide a person from prospect to customer?. In this article we'll take a look at how to use the marketing funnel as a model for your content, how users behave throughout their journey, and what it takes to inspire action. 3. The Product Marketing Minidegree Product marketing is the most in-demand role in marketing today. And yet, supply is nowhere near where businesses would like it to be. If you’re a product marketer in 2021, you’re having a good time.
On the other hand, getting into product marketing is damn tough. Most content only touches the surface, and courses are usually created by those that preach, but don’t practice. With that $1997 price tag on top of it.
To change that, we brought 16 of the top 1% product marketing practitioners as your instructors in this Product Marketing Minidegree.
From Daniel J. Murphy, VP of Marketing at Privy that designed the curriculum, to Patrick Campbell, CEO of ProfitWell that will teach you all about the strategy behind pricing and packaging, you’ll be in good hands and even better company. You can check the whole curriculum here.
Don't’ be surprised when you see folks from HubSpot, Drift, Shopify and Outreach inside.
Our goal is always to create the most in-depth, the most practical education out there. Trying really hard not to toot our own horn... but we did it again. It’s actually easy when you bring the best product marketers to teach what they do.
Become great at product marketing. Sign up for your 7 day trial now. 4. CXL's Playbooks integration with Zapier 90% of the tasks in marketing are not unique. Someone out there has already figured out the optimal way to do it. We turned each task into a 10-step playbook.
Now, you can also integrate Playbooks into your workflows and build your SOPs with ease, delegate tasks and save hours of explaining.
5. Latest episode on "How to Win" Ben Jabbawy is THE person you want to hear talking when it comes to focusing on a narrow niche.
He's the CEO of Privy, the email marketing tools focused on Shopify and Wix, with over 600000 clients and generating $6 billion in sales.
He can tell you all about taking risks and grabbing opportunities.
6. CXL talent pool Instead of applying to hundreds of job ads on LinkedIn and other platforms, with CXL Talent Pool, top brands will reach out to you.
If you're looking for a new marketing role, sign up here. It's free.
7. Should you experiment with pricing? If a customer will pay more for a product or service, then what's wrong with charging a higher price? Enter the curious world of price experimentation, where ethics and logic collide. To discuss the merits, join Emma Travis (Speero), Shanelle Mullin (Shopify), John Trimble (TalkTalk), and Collin Crowell (Kameleoon) on November 10th. Peep Laja Let's connect on LinkedIn.
